Stand up for children, especially girls, impacted by conflict in Ukraine
There is a rapidly deteriorating situation for children and families stranded in areas with a lack of safe exit routes, who face a daily challenge for survival.
Plan International started operating in the Republic of Moldova in March 2022 to support the Government, the UN and humanitarian partners in responding to the arrival of refugees from Ukraine.
Over 800,000 refugees have crossed into Moldova from Ukraine since the start of the conflict and around 100,000 have remained in the territory of the country.
We’ve partnered with 10 local non-governmental organisations to boost their capacity to keep children safe and provide them with a quality education. Through our partners, we are implementing programmes across Moldova, with a focus on the Northern and Southern regions and the municipality of Chisinau.
We support the most vulnerable refugee children with food and hygiene products to address their basic needs, and help them prepare for winter. We also support them to access play, education, mental health support, legal services, and other social and emotional support services. All our work promotes children’s rights, mental health and gender equality.
Our current priorities include:
Our work in Moldova is part of a regional response to the Ukraine crisis which also includes programmes in Poland, Ukraine and Romania.
