Enhancing girls’ retention in schools by establishing a protective and empowering environment and addressing school related gender-based violence.
Plan International has been working in Sierra Leone for over 45 years. In this time we have supported children, youth and community members to enter and stay in school, be safe from abuse, and be equipped to take up employment opportunities.
In particular we have worked with girls and young people and their allies to build their capacity to speak out and advocate for their rights, the elimination of violence against girls and women and equal participation in decision-making.
Our programming addresses the barriers and unequal power relations which are the root causes of vulnerabilities faced by youth. We drive change in policy and practice at the local and national level.
Our priorities include:
We’re working with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and the Government of Sierra Leone to provide daily, free school meals for children across Sierra Leone.
