Plan International El Salvador

Plan International began working in El Salvador in 1976. For over 40 years, we have positively impacted the lives of over 1 million families and have promoted the rights of children, youth and adolescents.

In El Salvador, over one third of the population is under the age of 18. They are often vulnerable and can’t exercise their rights due to high rates of violence.

We work in over 400 communities in the departments of Chalatenango, Cabañas, Cuscatlán, La Libertad and the southern part of San Salvador. Each year we work with more than 365,000 children.

Building on Plan International’s global purpose to advance children’s rights and equality for girls, our work in El Salvador is inclusive, innovative and aims to unite society to support Salvadoran children.

Our current priorities include:

  • Early childhood development
  • Education
  • Protection from violence
  • Responding to and preparing for disasters
  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • Skills and jobs.
